Participant hereby agrees not to instigate, support, maintain or authorize any action, claim or lawsuit against the Sponsor, or any other person, on the grounds that any use of a Participant’s Entry, infringes any of Participant’s rights as creator of the Entry, including, without limitation, trademark rights, copyrights and moral rights or “droit moral.” Nothing herein shall constitute an employment, joint venture, or partnership relationship between Participant and Sponsor. Participants will not receive any compensation from Sponsor in connection with any Entries. Each Participant acknowledges and agrees that Sponsor or other Participants or third parties may have developed or commissioned works which are similar to the Entry of Participant or Participant’s team, or may develop something similar in the future, and each Participant waives any claims that Participant may have resulting from any similarities to the Entry of Participant or Participant’s team.

Sponsor will not replace any lost or stolen prizes. This is a contest of skill. Whether or not your Entry is determined as a winner depends on how your Entry compares to the other Entries submitted in the Hackathon when evaluated based on the Judging Criteria.  All cash awards are a one-time offer and there is no offer of licensure, royalty, or other financial compensation implied beyond the award.

Winners will be notified by 7:00 PM EST on March 11, 2017 and may be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and publicity/liability release within seven (7) days of notification and if applicable will be issued a W-9 tax form. If a selected winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to claim a prize and/or where applicable an affidavit of eligibility and publicity/liability release is not timely received, is incomplete or modified, the prize may be forfeited and an alternate winner may be selected from remaining valid, eligible Entries timely submitted.

Business Relationship:

Participation in the Hackathon or acceptance of a prize does not create an obligation either on your part or Sponsor’s part to negotiate or enter into any business relationship or to sign any commercial agreement.  Except as may otherwise be provided in these Official Rules, you are free to discuss your Entry and the ideas or technologies that it contains with other parties and you are free to contract with any third parties so long as you do not sign any agreement or undertake any obligations that conflict with these Official Rules or that conflict with any agreement you have entered into with Sponsor regarding your Entry.

Publicity:

Except where prohibited, by participating in the Hackathon, Participant consents to the use of his/her name, photo and/or likeness, biographical information, entry and statements attributed to Participant (if true) for advertising and promotional purposes, including without limitation, inclusion in Sponsor’s newsletters, Sponsor’s website at www.nestleskinhealth.com, and any of the Sponsor’s social media accounts or news outlets without additional compensation.

DISCLAIMER. IN NO EVENT WILL SPONSOR BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY DIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING LOSS OF USE, DATA, BUSINESS OR PROFITS) ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE HACKATHON, WHETHER SUCH LIABILITY ARISES FROM ANY CLAIM BASED UPON CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE, AND WHETHER OR NOT SPONSOR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH LOSS OR DAMAGE.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation or exclusion of liability for incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.

Topics

01

Skin Health

Literacy

Life-long skin maintenance, nourishment, and enhancement lead to good skin health and general wellness across your lifetime. The goal for everyone should be life-long skin health.

The challenge: We need solutions to engage, educate, and empower individuals and communities to pursue a lifetime of healthy skin.

02

Nutrition and Skin Health

While we have long understood that there is a relationship between good nutrition and our health, we are still learning exactly how nutrition affects the overall health of our skin.

The challenge: We need solutions to better understand the relationship between food and skin health.

03

Engaging Acne

Most of us have had or will have acne at some point in our lives. In fact, the American Academy of Dermatology reports that 85% of all young adults experience at least minor acne.

The challenge: We need solutions that empower individuals to live well and own acne.

04

Skin HealthTech for the Aging Population

By 2020, the global population over 60 will reach 1 billion! Technology is playing a vital role for older adults and their caregivers.

The challenge: We need solutions that close the gaps in skin health and accessible in-home skin care for older adults.

Who Should Attend?

The SHIELD Skin Tech Hackathon is open to anyone with fresh ideas and the desire and drive to create real solutions. Whether you’re a doctor, researcher, developer, designer, engineer, entrepreneur, or you’re just interested in healthy skin, let’s come together and build something!

How Will Teams Will Formed?

Once you are registered, please go to Sparkboard and create a profile. Sparkboard is an online platform where you can post your own idea and build your team, or you can browse other teams and ideas. If you see an idea that is a good fit for your interests and skills, you can join the team with the click of a button. You can comment, communicate, and share on social media. We encourage you to form teams on Sparkboard before the hackathon. If you are unable, there will also be an opportunity to join a team in person on Friday afternoon.

How Many People Can Be In My Team?

You can have up to 5 people in your team.

What Will We Be Making?

You and your team will identify a problem within the topics and challenge areas above, conceptualize a solution to this problem, and create a business plan to bring the solution to market. Solutions can be hardware or software, high tech or low tech. You are not required to create a prototype but are welcome to present one in your 5-minute pitch if you have one.

What will we be pitching?

Teams will have 5 minutes to present a slide deck of their business plan and respond to questions from the panel of judges. Your pitch will be judged on a range of factors including how well the solution solves the problem, feasibility, and how sound your business plan is overall. Presenting a prototype or wireframe is optional. Specific judging criteria and presentation template will be posted closer to the event.

What Do We Win?

The judges have the discretion to name a grand prize winner. The grand prize winners will be awarded $25,000 in funding toward the development of their winning proposal. The funding will be paid out in conjunction with the achievement of pre-determined milestones throughout the course of a year-long partnership with Nestlé Skin Health SHIELD. Additional prizes in the amounts of $1,000, $2,000, and $5,000 will be awarded to other promising teams, at the judges’ discretion. For more details about the prizes, please read the Terms and Conditions.
